History

The Commerce Housing Authority (CHA), located in Commerce, GA, is a government agency that operates and manages public housing in Jackson County. The Housing Authority oversees low-income housing, including the application process, eligibility guidelines, and related resources. For example, Commerce residents can receive subsidies for low-income housing, access public housing programs, and learn about other resources for eligible Jackson County residents from the Housing Authority.

CHA is governed under the U.S. Housing Act of 1937 as amended, the Acts of the Georgia Legislature, O.C.G.A. Title 8, Chapter 3, Articles 1-137, and by authorization of the City of Commerce City Council through the formation of an on-going Cooperation Agreement. CHA is recognized as a public body corporate and politic “Public Housing Authority” by the United States of America Department of Housing and Urban Development and the State of Georgia.
